Plurality of Elders
Mountain View Bible Church is an elder governed church under Jesus Christ's ultimate rule. What this means is that no one man is in charge at our church. We believe the Biblical model of church government laid down in the New Testament is that of the plurality of elders.
Titus 1:5
"For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you."
1 Peter 5:1-2
"Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, shepherd the flock of God among you."
All of our elders are equally responsible for the leadership of Mountain View Bible Church. However, each elder specifically oversees the different areas of ministry within the MVBC structure. All elders are accountable to each other and therefore a system of mutual authority is in place. Each elder seeks to be a servant-leader as laid down in the New Testament.
Matthew 20:25-28
"But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. "It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
1 Peter 5:1-4
"Therefore, I exhort the elders among you...shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory."
